FAQ's

1. ABOUT THE RESERVATION

WHAT TYPE OF TOUR DO YOU OFFER?

Campo Base specializes in organizing active holidays both in summer and winter. Our tours are offered in three different formats, designed to meet the diverse needs of our clients: group tours, self-guided tours, and private guided tours. Our group tours are set of specific dates and allow you to share this adventure with both friends and strangers, always accompanied by an expert guide throughout the entire journey. You can discover all available dates for both summer and winter on our website. On a private guided or a self-guided trek you can choose you preferred dates and tour. For those who love independence, the self-guided tour could be the perfect choice. In this case, you’ll manage the route yourself, supported by all the necessary information to experience the adventure in full autonomy. In a private guided tour, you'll have a guide just for your small group. Additionally, we manage bookings for stays in chalets in Val di Non and Val di Sole.

HOW DO I BOOK MY TRIP?

You can contact us via our website using the Tabs “Books” or “Request Info” that you find in every tour page. If you prefer, you can send an e-mail at esperienze@campobase.travel. We don’t take reservations over the phone, but if you have any question, you can call us at +39 0463 97 00 46 (we are in office Mon to Fri – 9 to 17 CET).

HOW DOES THE RESERVATION PROCESS WORK?

Once you are ready to book your trip, we kindly ask that you complete a trip registration form, which collects all the necessary information to proceed with the reservation. Bookings are subject to availability and since huts manage availability offline, we need to contact all the suppliers involved in your trip. Once all huts are confirmed, we will confirm your trip. At this point you can consider the dates confirmed, book the flights, make other arrangements. A 30% deposit of the trip cost will be required at this stage. Then, about 30 days before the trip, we'll reach out for the remaining balance payment.

WHEN SHOULD I BOOK?

It is strongly recommended to plan your trip well in advance (4-6 months before the tour) to secure the best accommodation on your desired dates. The earlier you book, the better, but in any case, we will do our best to meet your requests. If the tour is not available, we will offer you alternative options.

HOW CAN I PAY?

It is possible to pay by credit card or wire transfer:
- Credit card – we accept all major cards, including Visa and Mastercard. To proceed, fill out our payment form (which a member of our booking team will send to you via email), and the amount will be charged to your card.
- Wire transfer - our bank details are available on the invoice we will send to you.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

If you need to cancel your booking, please inform us as soon as possible. Cancellations must be submitted in written form. We guarantee the conditions of cancellation as on https://www.campobase.travel/en/useful-info/booking-conditions/.

DO I NEED ANY INSURANCE?

Travel insurance is not mandatory, but we strongly recommend it for all bookings. However, it is necessary to have health insurance that covers the activities included in the tour (trekking, ski mountaineering, etc.).

CAN YOU CUSTOMIZE MY ITINERARY?

On our website, you will find a complete list of all the activities we offer. If you can’t find the experience that suits you, contact us, and we will try to tailor our activities based on your requests.

2. CHALET

WHAT IS A CHALET?

A chalet (baita) is a typical mountain dwelling, built with wood and stone, originally used for agricultural purposes and to house livestock and farming families. Today, many huts have been renovated and transformed into tourist accommodations, maintaining their traditional charm while offering modern comforts. A stay in a baita allows you to experience an authentic getaway in close contact with nature.

WHERE ARE YOUR CHALETS LOCATED?

Our accommodations are located in Val di Sole and Val di Non.

WHEN ARE THEY AVAILABLE?

Most chalets are available year-round, but some are closed during the winter as they are not accessible. During the mid and high season, it is only possible to book weekly stays (from Saturday to Saturday), while in the low season, you can rent a property for shorter stays (minimum 3 nights).

WHAT TYPE OF ACCOMMODATION CAN I EXPECT?

Our chalets are either independent, with exclusive outdoor spaces, or semi-independent, meaning they have multiple living units, each with its own private entrance and generally shared outdoor spaces. The semi-indipendent chalets are the ideal solutions for families who want to spend a holiday together in the same property while maintaining their own independence.

3. OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

ARE THE TOURS SUITABLE FOR EVERYONE?

For more information on the difficulty levels of our programs, visit the Difficulty Levels page.

I AM A SOLO TRAVELER, CAN I BOOK A SELF-GUIDED HIKE?

Solo travelers are not uncommon in the Dolomites, even among our clients. Of course, the natural risks associated with the mountain environment are always present, and we require that you already have hiking experience in the mountains. We still recommend simple and well-marked routes. Contact us to find the tour that best suits you!

WHAT ARE THE SERVICES INCLUDED IN THE TOUR?

The tour price includes all overnight stays, whether in a mountain hut or hotel. Depending on the type of tour selected, services such as an mountain guide or private transfers may also be included. You can find a list of all the services included in each package in the "Dates and Prices" section of each tour.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SELF-GUIDED OR A PRIVATE GUIDED TOUR?

During a self-guided tour, you will complete the journey entirely on your own and at your own pace, following easy, well-established, and clearly marked trails/routes. Upon arrival, we will provide you with detailed maps and instructions to guide you through the discovery of our beautiful region, ensuring a safe experience. If you choose a private guided tour, you will be accompanied throughout the entire tour by an experienced local mountain guide, officially registered with the Mountain Guides Association.

WHY SHOULD I HAVE A GUIDE?

A guide will adapt the daily itinerary based on your preference and level and on the weather forecast. Our mountain guides share their own knowledge with the guests, thus making your hiking tour more informative or even educational. On a guided hiking tour, you can learn interesting facts about the local traditions and culture. Mountain guides study the history of the region and have a lot to talk about it. Finally, only local guides can take you to scenic spots most tourists don’t know about.

Discover our Equipment List for summer and winter.

WHAT MEALS ARE INCLUDED?

During a tour, breakfast (continental buffet) is always included at the hotel. Sometimes, dinner is also included, but this depends on the type of tour, and you will find all the details in the program specifics. At mountain huts, both breakfast and dinner are included.
Breakfast is usually served buffet-style and offers a wide variety of options: fruit, ham, cheese, eggs, cereals, yogurt, milk, and other local products. Dinner is usually hearty and includes a fixed menu with appetizers, a first course (such as soups, pasta, risotto, gnocchi), a second course (usually meat with a side dish), and dessert. In many mountain huts, there are 2-3 dish options available if a fixed menu is served. Some huts also offer à la carte dinners, but in any case, dinner is included in the tour cost. Drinks must be ordered and paid for separately.

CAN MOUNTAIN HUTS ACCOMODATE SPECIAL DIETARY NEEDS?

Mountain huts can meet vegetarian, vegan and celiac dietary requirements, but the choice will be not as broad as in the restaurants in the valleys. Dietary requirements must be communicated to the huts in advance – we do it based on the information we receive from you in your trip registration form. In any case, we recommend reminding the hut personnel about your dietary requirements upon arrival.

WHERE CAN I HAVE LUNCH?

For lunch, it is possible to stop in the mountain huts along the route, if any. You can find this information in the hiking schedule we provide. The lunch menu in the huts is similar to the dinner menu. Typically, there is a choice of pasta and soups for 10 – 15 euros. Main dishes cost 15 - 25 euros on an average.Fast hikers reach the booked huts early enough for a lunch and then do a sidewalk. In alternative, packed lunch is available for purchase in all huts where you stay overnight. If you prefer packed lunch, we suggest that you notify the hut personnel in the evening.

CAN I CHARGE MY PHONE AT THE HUTS?

Yes, all rooms are equipped with 220-volt electrical outlets where you can charge your devices (phone, camera, etc.).

I DON'T HAVE THE FERRATA GEAR, CAN I RENT IT?

IS WI-FI AVAILABLE IN MOUNTAIN HUTS?

Many mountain huts are often located in remote areas where network and data connection may not be available. Some facilities offer Wi-Fi to their guests, but this is not always guaranteed. Wi-Fi may be available for a few hours a day, with hourly fees. The signal can also be unstable and is typically only available in common areas. In case of bad weather, the signal may be completely interrupted.

IS LAUNDRY AVAILABLE IN MOUNTAIN HUTS?

If you are planning a hut-to-hut trip, you should be prepared for the lack of laundry facilities at mountain huts on most itineraries. The only option for washing clothes will be hand washing in the sink in the huts. For drying, most huts have common areas with stoves or radiators where you can hang your clothes to dry. You may find it helpful to have a waterproof bag to store wet clothes and plan to dry them overnight.
