TRIP STYLE

To allow you to discover the mountains at the pace that suits you best, Campo Base offers three different travel styles, designed to match every need and exploration preference: Self-Guided Tours, Private Guided Tours, and Group Departures. Whether you prefer exploring the mountains independently and following your own rhythm, relying on a dedicated guide who can personalize every detail, or sharing the adventure with new travel companions, you will always find the ideal formula to experience the mountains with authenticity, safety, and passion.
For every type of experience, Campo Base guarantees constant support, careful planning, and itineraries crafted to make your journey unforgettable, both in summer and winter.

SELF-GUIDED TOUR

Self-guided tours are designed for those who want maximum freedom during their journey, while still relying on the professional support of local experts during the planning phase. No guides or groups are included: you can set off with friends, family, or choose to enjoy a solo adventure.

There are many self-guided itineraries available in every season. For those approaching this type of experience for the first time, it is advisable to choose easy or moderate routes.
When it comes to trekking, the Dolomites offer an ideal setting to begin, thanks to their well‑marked and frequently traveled trails. Among the most iconic routes for a first experience, we recommend considering the Dolomites of Val Gardena or the famous Alta Via 1.
For those who prefer more remote areas, there are tours that cross wilder regions, where nature is untouched and trails require greater navigation skills, such as the Ortles‑Cevedale group, the Lagorai range, or some areas of the Friuli Dolomites.

In winter, you can experience a self-guided Ski Safari. You can choose light itineraries that allow you to explore the main ski areas of the Dolomites - such as our Easy Flow - or opt for a route that combines skiing with culinary discovery through a Gourmet Ski Safari.

Regardless of the itinerary you choose, a minimum level of hiking experience and good orientation skills are required. All Campo Base tours take place on well‑established, signposted, and thoroughly tested trails.

Every tour must be carefully planned, which is why Campo Base offers in‑depth consulting to help you select the route best suited to your technical level, the time of year, and the type of experience you wish to enjoy.

One of the most appreciated features of self‑guided tours is the complete freedom in choosing your dates. Once you have selected your tour, you decide when to depart - no fixed schedules. This is where Campo Base’s meticulous organization comes into play: we take care of booking huts and hotels, arranging transfers required along the itinerary, managing logistics, and preparing your travel materials.

All proposals include a careful selection of hotels and mountain huts for overnight stays. For all hut-to-hut itineraries, accommodation with breakfast in hotels and half board in mountain huts is always included. Depending on the itinerary, dinner may also be included at the hotel.
When selecting accommodation, priority is given to comfort and location, based on the options available along the route. Hotels included in the package are typically 3‑star, but 4‑ or 5‑star options are available with a supplement. Most mountain huts, especially in the Dolomites, are surprisingly comfortable. They offer all essential services, including showers.
Mountain huts provide shared dormitories, typically for 5 to 12 guests, as well as private rooms for 2, 3, or 4 people, equipped with mattresses, pillows, and blankets. Private rooms usually include bed linens, while in shared dorms guests must use a sleeping bag liner.

Upon your arrival at the first accommodation of the tour, you will find a complete trip package prepared specifically for your trip. In addition to the GPX tracks and the detailed itinerary, you will also receive, depending on the chosen route, a specialized hiking map or a full map set.
Our hiking maps include numbered trails, mountain huts, topographic points, and a wide range of useful information to help you navigate independently. Alongside traditional maps, we also provide electronic maps with satellite navigation features to offer even more precise support.

The daily itinerary includes a complete description of each leg. Combined with the maps provided, these instructions make navigation simple and intuitive: you just need to follow the directions, consulting the map only when necessary.
The itinerary contains precise descriptions of every section, including the trail or slope numbers to follow in order to reach the next mountain hut. When interesting variants or alternative routes are available along the way, the document lists each option, allowing you to choose the one that best suits your pace and interests. You will also find information on scenic viewpoints or points of interest that are not marked on the map.
For each day, the itinerary also includes an elevation profile, a valuable tool for understanding the stage’s progression and estimating the time required. The diagram breaks the route into sections—ascents and descents—and provides an indicative time estimate for completing each segment.

During your trip, you’re never alone: active assistance is available 24/7 for any questions or needs. The Campo Base team constantly monitors weather conditions, trail status, and any changes in transportation. In case of schedule adjustments, you will receive prompt updates to ensure a safe and worry‑free experience.

PRIVATE GUIDED TOUR

Private guided tours are the most complete, safe, and personalized way to explore the mountains with an Alpine guide dedicated exclusively to your group.
This type of tour is designed for those who want a tailor‑made program built around their own pace, technical level, and the kind of experience they wish to enjoy. The group is formed by you, with no external participants: the guide is dedicated solely to you and your group, accompanying you, advising you, and turning your trip into a truly unique experience.

Choosing a guided tour means relying on a professional who deeply knows and lives the territory: its trails, its history, and its unique features. Our guides move through these places every day and know how to adapt each outing based on terrain conditions, weather, and your needs. This allows for a flexible journey, where the itinerary can be adjusted in real time when necessary.
The presence of a guide is not only a guarantee of safety but also an added value that enriches the entire experience. Hiking with a guide means discovering curiosities about local history, listening to stories linked to alpine traditions, learning how to read a complex natural environment like the mountains, and having authentic encounters with locals. It is a more conscious and experiential way to travel. A guide can take you to less frequented summits, hidden valleys, or places unknown to most visitors.

There are many private guided tours to choose from. You can opt for a trekking experience along some of the most renowned alpine and Dolomite routes, such as the Alta Via, to experience the tour in a more authentic way through your guide’s stories: curiosities, traditions, local legends, and fun facts that enrich each day and transform the journey into a true cultural immersion.

A private guided tour is also the ideal choice if you want to go beyond classic hiking and discover the more technical side of the mountains. You can challenge yourself on equipped routes and via ferratas, learning proper progression techniques in complete safety. Among the most iconic via ferrata itineraries are the Bocchette routes, a spectacular experience that leads you across ledges, exposed passages, and some of the most breathtaking viewpoints in the Dolomites.

For those who dream of mountaineering, it is possible to choose itineraries that lead to glaciers, ridges, and peaks above 3,000 meters. In these more complex environments, the guide becomes an essential figure: they ensure safety, support you in managing technical sections, explain how to use the equipment, and allow you to experience the adventure with awareness and peace of mind.

Whether it’s a panoramic trek, a via ferrata, or a high‑altitude ascent, the guide is the key to tackling the route with peace of mind: learning, progressing, and discovering places that would not be accessible on your own.

In winter environments, the presence of a guide becomes even more essential. During the cold season, a guide is required to safely undertake ski touring itineraries and snowshoe excursions: snow conditions, avalanche risk, variable visibility, and complex navigation demand specific skills and in‑depth knowledge of the terrain.
For ski safari itineraries, on the other hand, the guide remains optional, useful for enriching the experience and simplifying logistics, but not strictly necessary.

You can find all our summer and winter guided tours at the respective links.

From an organizational perspective, a private guided tour follows the same structure as our self‑guided tours: huts and hotels are selected and booked in advance, all necessary transfers are carefully arranged, the itinerary is planned in detail, and logistical support remains active throughout the entire trip. The difference is that, in addition to all of this, you will have a guide by your side at all times, managing pace, safety, navigation, and every technical aspect of the excursion. This allows you to fully focus on the beauty of the landscape, the pleasure of the journey, and the experience shared with the people you love.

This formula is perfect for families who want to explore the mountains with peace of mind, for groups of friends seeking a meaningful adventure, or for anyone wishing to enjoy a special holiday without having to worry about anything. The guide provides continuous support, helps maintain a rhythm suitable for everyone, offers advice on how to handle the more demanding sections, and creates a calm and motivating atmosphere in which every participant can feel comfortable.

GROUP DEPARTURE

Campo Base group departures are the ideal choice for those who love traveling in company and discovering the mountains alongside people who share the same passion.
This format combines the expertise and professionalism of a local guide with the genuine joy of sharing effort, smiles, views, and unforgettable moments along the way. There’s no need to assemble your own group—you can join people from all over the world.

Our departures are guaranteed: the tour is confirmed immediately at the time of booking, with no waiting or uncertainty. Groups are intentionally small, composed of a maximum of 6–8 participants depending on the characteristics of the itinerary.
This ensures greater attention from the guide to each participant. Moreover, a small group creates a warm and friendly atmosphere, where it’s easy to socialize and feel part of a close‑knit team.
The guide accompanying the group is an expert in the area, its culture, and its traditions, and will enrich the experience with stories, curiosities, and valuable insights. The routes are carefully selected and may include scenic detours, alternative variants, or technical sections that are always tackled in full safety thanks to the guide’s presence.

Choosing a group tour means you can focus solely on the pleasure of walking, leaving all organizational details to us.
It’s the perfect formula for solo travelers who still want to enjoy a shared experience. It is also an ideal option for itineraries that require specific skills, such as via ferratas, exposed sections, or winter conditions that demand greater safety.

On a group tour, the mountains become a social, fun, and engaging experience: the guide manages pace, safety, logistics, and route decisions, while you can immerse yourself fully in the joy of being together.
