The best of Cortina Dolomites: Lagazuoi, Cinque Torri and Federa

A moderate yet truly spectacular trekking route that allows you to discover the wonders surrounding Cortina d’Ampezzo, the Queen of the Dolomites. Over four days of hiking and three nights in mountain huts, you can immerse yourself in the most iconic landscapes of the Ampezzo Dolomites, following simple and accessible trails with manageable hiking times suitable even for less experienced walkers.

The itinerary leads you through some of Cortina’s most beloved landmarks: the majestic walls of Lagazuoi, the harmonious shapes of Averau, the scenic Cinque Torri, and the enchanting Lago di Federa, whose crystal‑clear waters reflect the surrounding peaks. Every stage reveals a different setting: from high‑altitude landscapes shaped by World War I history to quiet forests, from wide alpine basins to panoramic terraces that suddenly open up along the trail. It’s a tour that surprises you more and more with every step.

To fully experience Cortina’s magical atmosphere, the tour includes a night in town before and after the trek - an opportunity to enjoy its alpine charm, stroll through its elegant center, or simply relax as you look out at the mountains you’ve just explored.

The itinerary is also suitable for families with children (recommended minimum age: 8 years), provided they are used to walking and have a good level of fitness. Although the trails are not technical, they unfold over rocky terrain and require stable footing and some prior experience in the mountains.

Program details:

• Day 1
  Arrival in Cortina d'Ampezzo and check-in in 3* hotel. 
   
• Day 2 - LAGAZUOI
  Ascent: +1030m. Descent: -0m. Altitude: 1720 - 2760m. Distance: 7km. Hiking time: 3h30.
  Private transfer to reach the starting point of the trek. Through increasingly high mountain landscapes, you skirt the beautiful Lagazuoi Lake and through the spectacular Forcella di Lagazuoi, you reach the amazing hut with a breathtaking 360-degree view of the Ampezzo Dolomites panoramas. Dinner and overnight stay in hut.

• Day 3 - CINQUE TORRI
  Ascent: +530m. Descent: -500m. Altitude: 2110 - 2560m. Distance: 7km. Hiking time: 3h30.
  Walking south from Passo Falzarego, on the left you come across Limides Lake where Tofana di Rozes, Averau, Sass de Stria and Lagazuoi are reflected. The landscapes become harsher again and through the Forcella Averau you reach the hut of the same name first and then, with a small detour, the Nuvolau hut. From here you can admire the Cinque Torri before approaching the fascinating mountain range during the last hour of hiking of the day. Dinner and overnight stay in hut.
   
• Day 4 - LIMIDES LAKE AND CRODA DA LAGO
  Ascent: +520m. Descent: -610m. Altitude: 2040 - 2360m. Distance: 12km. Hiking time: 4h.
  Leaving the Cinque Torri behind you, you walk towards Passo Giau admiring the Averau and Nuvolau peaks from a new perspective. After crossing the pass, the trail takes you across the Forcella Giau and Forcella Ambrizzola, from which you can admire the Becco di Mezzodì from a privileged position. From here the trail continues downhill towards Federa Lake, one of the highlights of the tour. Dinner and overnight stay in hut.
   
• Day 5 - CORTINA D'AMPEZZO
  Ascent: +140m. Descent: -960m. Altitude: 1210 - 2050m. Distance: 10km. Hiking time: 4h.
  After hiking at high altitude, today you walk mostly immersed in the cool coniferous forest. Today's itinerary will take you downhill and along the Ajal and Planozes lakes, before reaching Cortina d'Ampezzo directly on foot. Accommodation in hotel.
   
• Day 6
  After breakfast, check-out and departure.
