PROGRAM
3 days on the Bocchette Via Ferrata in the Brenta Dolomites: guided hut-to-hut tour
The Via Ferrata delle Bocchette is one of the most spectacular and complete via ferrata routes in the Alps and has been, for decades, the quintessential symbol of the Brenta Dolomites. It offers a unique vertical experience: a high‑altitude route that connects airy ledges, passages between spires, and suspended traverses in the heart of one of the wildest and most fascinating Dolomite groups.
This itinerary was created with the idea of linking the Brenta mountain huts in one great traverse, taking advantage of the natural ledges typical of the range and the gaps between its main rock towers. Today, you have the chance to follow this extraordinary route and step into the vertical world of the Brenta, over 2,500 meters above sea level, surrounded by towering walls, exposed passages, and immense panoramas suspended above the clouds.
The main part of the traverse develops in the central Brenta, a wild and remote area where no traditional hiking trails exist: only ledges, vertical terrain, and deep ravines separating the most imposing peaks. This is where the most famous sections unfold, such as the Bocchette Centrali and the Bocchette Alte, known for their impressive ledge crossings and breathtaking passages at the foot of dolomitic towers.
Your journey begins with an introductory day on the Dallagiacoma trail, designed to help you get familiar with the gear and basic techniques. Accompanied by a UIAGM Mountain Guide, you learn how to correctly use via ferrata gear, carabiners, and harness. The following day, you can put your new skills into practice on the Sosat route, one of the Brenta’s classic routes: vertical sections, ladders, exposed stretches, and equipped passages alternate with grandiose scenery, allowing you to gradually immerse yourself in the high‑mountain atmosphere of the Brenta. The tour culminates with the Via Ferrata delle Bocchette Centrali, the most iconic section of the entire traverse. Here you walk along suspended ledges, follow the base of vertical walls, and cross the most famous passages, always surrounded by spires and dolomitic towers rising above you. It is a demanding but deeply rewarding itinerary, made even more thrilling by the spectacular environment around you.
Every evening you can count on the warm hospitality of the Brenta mountain huts, where an authentic, simple, mountaineer‑style atmosphere awaits you: the perfect way to end a day full of emotions.
Program details:
- Day 1
Arrival in Madonna di Campiglio and check-in in 3* hotel.
- Day 2 - DALLAGIACOMA TRAIL
Hiking time: 5h (2h via ferrata).
At 8:30 a.m. you meet with the Mountain Guide for an equipment check. Right from the start, you step into the atmosphere of your high‑altitude adventure: a short cable‑car ride takes you to Passo del Grostè, one of the most spectacular gateways to the heart of the Brenta. From here, your hike begins toward Rifugio Tuckett. Once at the hut, you leave your backpack to lighten your load and continue toward Bocca di Tuckett, where the first short equipped rocky section begins. After putting on your gear, the route continues along the scenic Dallagiacoma route, a trail that alternates between equipped sections with fixed ropes and steel cables, rock passages, and suspended ledges offering breathtaking views of the surrounding walls. It’s the perfect introduction to the world of via ferratas. The trail winds along the scree at the base of Castelletto Superiore, and after a couple of hours it leads you back to the hut in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay in hut.
- Day 3 - SOSAT ROUTE
Hiking time: 4h (3h via ferrata).
Your second day begins in a landscape that is already fully dolomitic as you prepare to tackle one of the Brenta’s best‑known equipped routes: the Sosat trail. The Sosat trail is a well‑known via ferrata that, using long metal ladders and rungs, winds its way along the eastern side of the Brenta Group. The day reaches its highlight when you arrive at the Vedretta degli Sfulmini, an evocative natural amphitheatre framed by the towering and distinctive vertical dolomite walls. Dinner and overnight stay in hut.
- Day 4 - BOCCHETTE CENTRALI
Hiking time: 7h30 (4h via ferrata).
Your final stage begins with a short ascent toward the Bocca d’Armi, reaching the start of the Bocchette Centrali, the most spectacular section of the entire Bocchette route. This route is characterized by its pronounced exposure along the slope overlooking Molveno and by the iconic traverse beneath the Campanil Basso. The via ferrata ends at the Bocca di Brenta; from here, the descent begins on a rocky trail down the Val Brenta Alta, following the scenic Bogani path that leads you to Rifugio Vallesinella. In the afternoon, you return to Madonna di Campiglio. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel.
- Day 5
After breakfast, check-out and departure.
Program details - Group departure:
The group departure follows the same itinerary, but does not include hotel accommodation before and after the hike. The meeting on the first hiking day is at Grostè cable car parking area.
Additional clarifications
The program could be changed at the discretion of the Campo Base Team / Mountain Guide (UIAGM certified) based on weather conditions and snow levels, maintaining unaltered, however, the basic structure and the aims of the proposal.
