PROGRAM

Guided hiking tour in the Dolomites - hut to hut through Marmolada, Sella and Sassolungo

This is one of the most renowned itineraries of the Dolomites. It leads to the discovery of the most scenic landscapes of Val di Fassa while enjoying an extraordinary variety of natural sceneries.

The itinerary we are presenting you goes from Marmolada, the largest glacier of the Dolomites, to Viel del Pan, the vast alpine pastures overlooking Lake Fedaia to then reach the desert of rocks in the heart of Sella mountain group. Here, the conquer of Piz Boè begins. With its 3.152 m a.s.l. Piz Boè represents the highest peak of Sella massif, although it is considered one of the easiest 3000 peaks of the Dolomites. The route continues crossing the wild Val Lasties to reach the vertical walls of Sassolungo and finally dive through the fairytale meadows of Val Duron.

Three dolomites' groups connected in a single hut to hut hiking tour which passes through the iconic symbols of Val di Fassa.

Skirting the eastern wall of sass Becè we descend to Pordoi Pass (2.239 m) and from here a lift leads us to the summit of Sass Pordoi (2.864 m): this beautiful location is also known as "Dolomites' terrace" for its characteristic overhanging shape and the grandiose panorama which ranges from the nearby Dolomite groups to the Ortles Cevedale and the Austrian Alps. After crossing a lunar landscape we will reach the hut at the foot of Piz Boè (3.152 m), the highest peak of the Sella group. The conquer of the summit is optional, the trail is equipped but it doesn't present technical difficulties (optional conquer of Piz Boè 1h30 +280m -280m 3km). Dinner and overnight stay in hut (2.873 m).

We set off with a view of Col Rodella towards the Bidonvia Forcella Sassolungo. Then, we reach Rifugio Demetz, located in a fairytale nest in the Forcella del Sassolungo. From here we keep on hiking towards Rifugio Vicenza and follow the Alta Via dei Ladini. We go around Sasso Piatto admiring it from every angle, until we reach the last hut of the day, where we will spend the night. Dinner and overnight stay in hut (2.300 m).

  • Day 6 - VAL DURON
    Ascent: +50m. Descent: -500m. Distance: 10km. Hiking time: 3h.
We head in direction of Denti di Terrarossa until Duron Pass (2.168 m); the trail is mostly flat and it presents some clefts along the ridge, which offers superb views over Alpe di Siusi and Odle. From the pass the descent across the meadows of Val Duron begins, between Sassolungo and Catinaccio mountain ranges. Once reached the hut Rifugio Micheluzzi a short transfer is waiting for us: it will take us back to Campitello di Fassa.
