PROGRAM
Hiking in the Stelvio National Park: guided trekking among alpine huts and mountain dairies
A simple trek at the foot of Ortler Cevedale mountain range, in a place where unspoilt nature meets the charm of alpine traditions. In Val di Rabbi the ancient custom of mountain pasture - the summer transfer of livestock from the valley floor to pastures at high altitude - still stands.
Along the route we will encounter some typical wooden and stone buildings, the so-called alpine dairies. Some huts are dedicated exclusively to the hospitality of animals and the production of cheese and milk, while others offer the possibility of refreshment and accommodation. Some huts have been recently renovated and now present comfortable private rooms decorated in alpine style. After the first regenerating night we will completely immerse ourselves in the alpine spirit, by spending our second night in a mountain hut, where we can share with other hikers and mountaineers the pure essence of our mountain experiences!
A hiking trail which combines the knowledge of the rural world, the traditional hospitality of Trentino and good Alpine cuisine with the scents and sounds of nature, within the borders of the largest protected area of the Alps.
Itinerary suitable for everyone, even for kids (6 years old minimum).
Program details:
- Day 1 - VAL MALEDA
Ascent: +885m. Descent: -70m. Distance: 8km. Hiking time: 4h.
After reaching the wonderful Val di Rabbi we will meet the Mountain Guide who will lead us to discover the secrets of Stelvio National Park. To welcome us along the way there will be cows, sheep and horses: they will keep us company during the last stretch of the path (a light climb). Once reached the mountain dairy we will feel immediately welcomed by a genuine family hospitality and, while waiting for a good traditional dinner, you can watch the art of milking. Dinner and overnight stay in mountain dairy (2.060 m).
- Day 2 - VAL SAENT
Ascent: +400m. Descent: -30m. Distance: 8km. Hiking time: 4h.
Today, waking up at dawn is a must! After a full breakfast with local products, everyone must be ready to watch the milking process before heading to the next hut. Through a slight ascent, the trail skirts the coast of the mountain overlooking Val Saent and crosses vast grassy slopes and clear waterways; then, it reaches a wide hollow at the foot of Ortler Cevedale. Dinner and overnight stay in hut (2.436 m).
- Day 3 - SAENT WATERFALLS
Ascent: +0m. Descent: -1180m. Distance: 9km. Hiking time: 4h30.
Pleasant and scenic descent surrounded by marmots and rhododendron flowers.
