PROGRAM

Alta Via 2 Dolomites - Guided hut to hut hiking tour

The Alta Via 2 in the Dolomites, known as "The Path of Legends", is a hiking tour which follows a 180km itinerary that goes from north-west towards south-east, crossing several dolomitic mountain ranges such as Plose, Putia, Odle, Puez, Sella, Padon, Bocche peak, Pale di San Martino and Alpi Feltrine.

One of the best multi-day hikes in the Dolomites from hut to hut, which will then lead us to the discovery of the second-half of the "High Route", its wildest side, the one that runs from Valles Pass to Feltre; we will walk along the incredible and imposing vertical walls of Pale di San Martino until the vast hollows of Vette Feltrine.

This hiking itinerary - considered to be one of the most fascinating in the western Dolomites - runs at an average altitude of 2.100 m with peaks close to 3.000 m and involves some via ferrata sections partly equipped with metal rope.

Program details

  • Day 1 - VAL VENEGIA
    Ascent: +750m. Descent: -200m. Distance: 7km. Hiking time: 3h30.
At 08:30 meeting with the Mountain Guide and equipment check. Private transfer to Valles Pass (2.032 m), where our hike begins; we reach the large grassy hollow of Forcella Venegia (2.217 m). After crossing the slopes of Valles peaks, we go up in direction of the unmistakable northern side of Pale di San Martino mountain range, towards Mulaz Pass. Dinner and overnight stay in hut (2.571 m).

  • Day 2 - FARANGOLE ROUTE
    Ascent: +1250m. Descent: -1400m. Distance: 12km. Hiking time: 8h.
From Forcella Margherita (2.655 m), along the northern ridge of Focobon peak, a steep ascent leads us to the rocky balcony of Farangole Pass, the highest point of the itinerary (2.932 m). While going down, following along the northern slope of Val Grande, after skirting the rocky tower of Torcia, the trail becomes exposed and with short equipped stretches leads to Pian delle Comelle and then to Rifugio Rosetta. We keep on walking across Pale di San Martino plateau, going down steep canals surrounded by vertical walls. Dinner and overnight stay in hut (2.278 m).

  • Day 3 - VAL CANALI
    Ascent: +510m. Descent: -1200m. Distance: 10km. Hiking time: 6h.
Today's daily hike takes place mostly at high altitude, to discover the magnificent Pale plateau. After the first uphill stretch, walking on rocky terrain, we reach the Fradusta Pass (2.716 m) on the slopes of the majestic peak of the same name (2.939 m). From here we hike on the fantastic plateau first crossing the Forcella del Miel (2.538 m) and then crossing the Canali Pass (2.469 m). The pass opens the doors to the valley which, with a fairly steep descent, takes us first to the hut where we are going to spend the night and then to Malga Canali. Here the panorama changes and the rocks of the Pale group are gradually replaced by the green vegetation of Val Canali. Transfer to Passo Cereda. Dinner and overnight stay in hut (1.630 m).

  • Day 4 - INTAIADA
    Ascent: +1250m. Descent: -1160m. Distance: 15km. Hiking time: 8h.
We hike for a short stretch to Malga Canali, where a private transfer brings us to Passo Cereda. Towards Comedon Pass (2.067 m) the steep Intaiada trail - following a natural ledge carved into the rock - descents to Feltre bivouac (1.930 m) in the hearth of Pian della Regina at the foot of Piz de Sagron. The trail continues with several ups and down among rocks and low vegetation until the grassy land of Col dei Bechi (1.960 m) and from here you undertake the exposed route "Troi dei Caserin". Dinner and overnight stay in hut (1.718 m).

  • Day 5 - VETTE FELTRINE
    Ascent: +900m. Descent: -650m. Distance: 13km. Hiking time: 6h.
Todays' route is an intresting as much as severe leg. First, we reach Finestra Pass and then, by following along exposed passages, Scarnia peak (2.227 m), where the mountain crossing of Vette Veltrine itself starts. The lanscape offers during sunny days wide views which space until Venice Lagoon. The itinerary - following a pretty flat terrain - reaches in a short time the wide grazing land of Busa delle Vette. Dinner and overnight stay in hut (1.993 m).

  • Day 6
    Ascent: +0m. Descent: -980m. Distance: 5km. Hiking time: 2h30.
Firstly, we descent walking across pastures and rocks, then zigzagging through the forest; in the end, we arrive at Croce d'Aune (1.011 m). Private transfer to San Martino di Castrozza and departure.
