Trekking among alpine huts and mountain lodges

Rediscovering the beauty of Nature

Val di Rabbi

Val di Rabbi is a small valley in western Trentino. It is a valley characterised by an alpine environment that is still maintained and preserved today.

At the foot of the imposing Ortles-Cevedale peaks, Val di Rabbi is surrounded by wide slopes and coniferous forests where deer, roe deer, squirrels and other wild animals protected by the Stelvio National Park can be spotted. In autumn, in collaboration with the Stelvio National Park, we organise activities to learn more about deer. In particular, the outing to listen to the deer rutting call is very popular. If you are interested in the subject, you can read our article “The Deer Rut”.

Trekking among Alpine huts and mountain lodges: features

Self-guided trekking

The trekking experience we offer is self-guided, which means that it is completed independently, without the accompaniment of a mountain guide.

You can choose the period that suits you best, and we will take care of checking the availability of the accommodation facilities. Once availability has been confirmed, we prepare the travel documents, which include: a detailed itinerary, hiking maps and online maps that can be consulted via an app directly from your smartphone. During your holiday, we are available by phone every day for any needs.

A self-guided trek gives you the opportunity to choose your own times and dates and, above all, to walk at your own pace in complete freedom. For more detailed information about this type of trekking, you can read our article “Trekking Holidays”.

Easy trekking

We offer this trekking experience in a self-guided version because it is a very pleasant route along well-marked trails. The trails of the Stelvio National Park are very well maintained: every junction is marked with white and red trail signs, and the paths are kept clean and clear.

Another distinctive feature is the width and safety of the trails, which have no steep drops or exposed sections, allowing you to enjoy the trek in complete relaxation.

Trekking for families

This trekking route has been classified as family-friendly. What makes it suitable for families?

It is an educational experience that allows the whole family to live in harmony with nature. You will rediscover the value of sharing and the beauty of spending time together outdoors.

There is no minimum age required to set off on this family adventure; however, children should be used to walking. The first day has a greater uphill elevation gain than the following days, which are more consistent. On the trekking page of our website, you can find all the details regarding elevation gain, length and walking times.

From hut to hut

An itinerant holiday during which you walk from one mountain lodge to another or, in this case, from an Alpine hut to a mountain lodge. After spending the first night in a hotel in the valley, you set off to discover Alpine accommodation. The Alpine huts and mountain lodges of the Stelvio National Park are waiting for you.

You will be able to enjoy the Alpine hospitality typical of accommodation facilities in the Trentino Alps. All the accommodations are family-run and will make you feel pampered, just like at home.

The Alpine huts

Alpine huts are structures used to bring animals to the mountain pastures during the summer. Around June, shepherds take their animals on a “summer holiday”: during the day they graze in the pastures, and in the evening they return to the hut. The animals are then milked, and the milk is taken to the dairies in the valley to be made into cheese or, if there is a cheesemaker on site, it is processed directly in the hut. The two Alpine huts where you will stay overnight have recently been renovated and converted into accommodation facilities.

Sleeping in an Alpine hut

A stay in an Alpine hut is very comfortable: you will sleep in private rooms furnished in a typical Alpine style. Bed linen, towels and blankets will be provided.

The mountain lodges

To complete your holiday, the mountain lodge experience is a must. In the past, mountain lodges were used only as shelters in case of bad weather or as intermediate bases for reaching the highest peaks. They were small, simple structures, but today they have been renovated and transformed into comfortable accommodation facilities equipped with everything you need to spend a pleasant night in Alpine style.

Sleeping in a mountain lodge

In mountain lodges, you sleep in shared rooms. The facilities provide a pillow and duvet or blanket; for hygiene reasons, you will need to bring a sleeping bag liner with you. The best thing about staying in a mountain lodge is feeling part of a group. Making friends with the other guests is inevitable, and you will discover stories and experiences that will stay in your heart.

What will you take home with you?

As with every holiday, you will return home feeling relaxed, carrying with you unique memories, experiences and emotions.

The Alpine hut trek is a wonderful and authentic experience. The value of enjoying a sustainable holiday completely immersed in nature is truly immense.

It is a holiday dedicated to tradition, to living with little and with a low environmental impact. You will return home with the awareness that sometimes we need to stop, listen to our bodies and free our minds, fully enjoying everything that surrounds us.
