Your ski week 2.0

Looking for ideas and itineraries? We've got the perfect solution for you!

There are many ways to live the mountains, it's neither necessary to be expert alpinists nor excellent climbers to enjoy the alpine environment: those who love low altitude landscapes choose the peace into the woods or along the streams, while who's searching for adventures can find what they desire by exploring lonely trails. If you're a winter lover and wish to see the peaks covered up in snow, shake the branches of the trees, if going slow bores you and you prefer to move fast with your skis, over the scenic slopes of the best ski areas in the world or breathing the adrenaline of the freeride, a ski safari is perfect for you.

But first, a bit of history...

Skiing can be considered one of the first means of locomotion used by man: the invention dates back to a very ancient time, given that the first findings date back to 2500 BC. (found in Sweden). They were rudimentary semi-finished wooden planks, covered in leather, like all the other inventions born out of pure and simple necessity: to slide on the snow without making any noise and, above all, without sinking in. They were used primarily by hunters – in Lapland they used a longer, thinner ski on one foot and a shorter one on the other, to move easily – of areas of the planet most covered in snow. The main finds investigated come from Siberia, Continental Russia, Lapland, northern China; in Sweden a rock is still visible which clearly represents a human figure on skis, dating back to around 2000 BC.

From survival to the Olympics

Later, skiing spread throughout Northern Europe and North America. The episode linked to the origin of the Swedish cross-country race, born in 1923, called Vasaloppet, remains a legend. King Vasa, convinced that he had lost the war against Denmark and skiing towards Norway in the hope of finding refuge there, he was reached by two of his men on skis: they had traveled almost a hundred kilometers to warn him that the tide of the war had changed and the vistory was in his hands. From the Middle Ages onwards, skis had become commonly used in many areas of the world, but only out of necessity and not yet for sporting reasons; we have to wait until 1843 to see the very first race hosted in Norway. With the subsequent spread of skiing beyond the Alps, the first clubs were born in Italy too, and from the 1920s it gained more and more recognition, becoming part of the Winter Olympic disciplines.

Why should you choose a Ski Safari?

If you want to stay in a specific and fixed location, experience it fully and without moving too much during your ski week, a ski safari is not for you. If, however, you dream of skiing on a different slope every day, of tackling the exciting and steep slopes that only the most famous ski areas in the world offer... there is no better choice! A ski safari will allow you to move from one mountain village to another, staying in high-level facilities - hotels, lodges or refuges - and getting in touch with local folklore and culinary traditions.

Itineraries in the Dolomites

Skiing surrounded by snow-capped peaks, flying on the slopes exploring the most famous and scenic ski areas, trying the adrenaline-filled experience of freeriding... what more could you want? If you think like us, a ski safari is the ideal solution to take your ski week to the next level. There are many possible itineraries; but Dolomiti Superski and Superskirama share the first place on the podium of the most popular safaris. You can choose whether to ski and manage your holiday independently or whether to be accompanied on the slopes by a Ski Guide, based on your experience on the blades and your desire to learn.

Culture, heritage and customs

From the descents above 2000 meters of the Sellaronda, through the Gardena, Pordoi, Sella and Campolongo passes in the rocky Eastern Dolomites, to the mountain groups of the Ortles Cevedale, of the Brenta Dolomites, of Adamello: the magic of new landscapes passes from one protected area to another, touching the Adamello Brenta Natural Park - established in 1967 - and the Stelvio National Park, granite massifs and sharp limestone spiers, larch forests and pines. But the jewels of Trentino's biosphere are not disconnected from the inhabited centres, on the contrary, they are accompanied by the numerous nuances of local folklore and tradition. Cortina D'Ampezzo itself, which will host the Olympics in 2026, is not only the renowned home of winter sports and shopping: among its precious treasures there are frescoes from the 15th century, historic buildings belonging to noble families, the ancient Church of San Francesco whose first testimony dates back to 1398. Just like Val di Fassa, of enormous naturalistic value and populated by legendary characters of Ladin culture: the mythical Kingdom of Fanes, protagonists of an epic cycle dating back to pre-Roman times!
